Happy 1st Birthday LWRG!!

Well the beginning of April marked the 1st anniversary of Lancaster Women’s    Running Group. A year ago all these ladies did not know each other and many of them did not run. They have just completed their 1st 10K race as a group and many have become great friends.

We celebrated with a meal out at The Borough in Lancaster, who cater for large parties really well. The food was delicious and the company was great. As I looked down the table at 20 ladies laughing and chatting I felt so happy that we had started this group. Together with Lindsay Hudd (who is on a maternity break) I attended a running training course and never looked back. Now I am Personal Training and Sports Massaging so it was grown into a full time aspect of my life. And a thoroughly enjoyable one.

13 ladies turned up on the Saturday morning after the meal to run a hilly 5 miles around Blea Tarn. We met up at Alexandra Park car park at Lancaster University and headed out along Hazelrigg Lane. Up the hill we ran (the weather had changed from warm and sunny to dull, cold and very windy in minutes). We all felt pretty tired, we finally reached the top and had a gorgeous view to reward us. We turned left into Blea Tarn Road where it flattened out a little.

Reaching the top of Hala Hill we ran down the hill where the wind dropped and we were able to chat among ourselves. We turned left at the bottom of the hill and headed back towards the university along the cycle track. At the university we ran left along the woodland trail which is always a nice run and soon ended up back at the car park.

A lovely birthday run for the group…one year gone and hopefully many yet to come. Thank you to all the members who turn up for runs in rain or shine, hail or wind, and run with smiles on your faces (or grimaces on the hilly bits). Everyone is so supportive and kind to each other whether they are the fastest or slowest. Well done, what a great year you have all had and the progress you have all made. And if anyone is thinking of joining, come along, its lovely 🙂
